Sunday School Ministry

Sunday School Vision

The vision for Sunday School is consistent with the vision of Mount Hope Baptist Church. We believe Sunday School plays a distinct role toward enhancing the Christian spiritual development, with focus on, teaching the word.

Sunday School is a ministry that helps people know Jesus Christ and deepen their lives in evangelism, discipleship, ministry, fellowship, and worship. Therefore, the goals of the Sunday School Ministry are to lead people to encounter the life-changing experience of knowing Jesus and learning what it means to follow Him. We hope to achieve this through Teaching, Equipping, and Reaching

Teaching

“1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

— (Rom 12:1-2 NKJV))

Sunday School will teach biblical truths and principles aiming for transformation. Transformation is teaching God’s Word to make a difference, or in other words, looking for practical ways to apply biblical truths from God’s Word to the lives of the Sunday School disciples.

We believe the only way to not be conformed to the world ways of thinking is to replace it with God’s truth, and the only infallible source of God’s truth is His revealed Word, the Bible. Transformation through renewed minds will come as disciples expose themselves to God’s Word through the faithful explanation of it, and we pray that Sunday School can assist in this each week.

Equipping

“11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ”

— (Ephesians 4:11-12 NKJV)

The Sunday School Ministry will perform its role in equipping the disciples as a critical aspect of advancing the Kingdom of God. While teaching helps the disciple with understanding and knowledge through the Holy Spirit toward transformation, equipping will assist in preparing the disciple for the work of the ministry. The Sunday School Ministry will encourage, instruct, and help prepare the disciples to:

1)Sharing the gospel of Christ with those who are not Christians.

2)Ministering to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ (the body)

Reaching

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

— (Matthew 5:14-16 ESV)

Sunday School is more than just teaching and equipping the Disciples of God; it is an evangelistic reaching and caring arm of Mount Hope Baptist Church. Reaching is defined as contacting a person and motivating them through the Gospel. Sunday School will reach fathers, mothers, children, and every individual who desire to deepen their knowledge of Christ. The Sunday School will reach people through fostering an environment of love that welcomes, encourage, and lead disciples. Classes shall be a spiritual support group for all participants. It must be a place where all can engage, learn, pray, and ask questions toward maturing the disciple. Further, the Sunday School Staff shall lead this charge through training, participating in evangelistic efforts, and spiritual development.
