Rev. Dr. Raymond A. Bell, Jr. 

Senior Pastor 

Rev. Dr. Raymond A. Bell, Jr., is a native of Washington, D.C. and has served as the Senior Pastor of Mount Hope Baptist Church, Fredericksburg, Virginia for over 30 years. Under his spiritual guidance and leadership, the membership has increased significantly. Strategic planning, focused church growth initiatives, coaching, mentoring and training have been major emphasis areas in Pastor Bell’s ministry.  Through his visionary leadership, the church purchased 20-acres of land for future expansion, including plans for a 1500-seat sanctuary, daycare, K-12 school, Family Life Center, and office complex.

 

Realizing the church’s role in its footprint, Mount Hope Baptist Church has positioned itself as a humanitarian hub in the Fredericksburg area, such that the community affectionately refers to the church as “The Hope”.  Through his influence, the church has partnered with numerous community organizations as it relates to housing, homelessness, healthcare, hunger, and higher education. 

 

His love of community involvement inspired him to serve as an adjunct professor at Germanna Community College, Locust Grove campus, as a chaplain for both the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Department/ Fire and Rescue Department, on the Spotsylvania Education Foundation, and as an Aspire mentor for Spotsylvania county schools. 

 

In addition to being a passionate pastor and community leader, Pastor Bell is founder and president of Mosaic Expressions LLC, a leadership coaching and consulting firm. The sole purpose of the organization is the development of leaders through training programs, critical analysis evaluation, and executive coaching.  He has coached executives in the educational, religious, business, and sport arenas. Through these leadership experiences, he has developed a unique ability to assist leaders in transforming thought and finding new possibilities. 

 

Earning a Master of Science degree in recreation and sports science with a concentration in coaching education from Ohio University, Pastor Bell is also passionate and gifted in coaching both sport coaches and elite athletes.  Dr. Bell received an Educational Doctorate Degree in Global Sport Leadership from East Tennessee State University. He is also a graduate of the Georgetown University Leadership Coaching Certification Program and serves as a certified leadership and executive coach. 

 

Dr. Bell is a self-motivator and has an ongoing love for learning. He is a certified Planning Commissioner from Virginia Tech and a graduate of American University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Justice and Law. He also earned a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Presbyterian School of Christian Education, a Master of Divinity Degree from Virginia Union University School of Theology, and a Doctorate of Ministry from Howard University with a focus in the mental health area. 

 

In his spare time, Pastor Bell enjoys listening to smooth jazz, traveling, and reading various genres of literature. He has a philanthropic heart for those who have experienced some sort of brokenness and believes they deserve a second chance.  An educator at heart, he has a passion for child literacy, thus he reads to school-age children in the Fredericksburg area.
